object type: Linen sampler embroidered with polychrome silks and silver metal thread in cross, satin, straight, tent and Florentine stitch with couching and drawn thread work.  The edges are turned under with hemstitching.  The sampler is worked in block, horizontal and vertical bands, which include an alphabet, and the date '1756', a repeat border and geometric patterns enclosing a large flower pot surrounded by small detached motifs, coronets, initials and wreaths containing initials.
