There is a double blue line selvedge at both sides and top and bottom are turned under. The whole sampler is backed onto a supporting cotton backing. A repeating floral border pattern, with a bird in each top corner and a butterfly in each bottom corner, surrounds the whole sampler. There are three horizontal sections with a continuation of the border pattern between the first and the second. The top section contains the inscription 'Christ's Arms do still stand open to receive All weary Prodigals that Sin do leave for them/ he left his's blest Abode made Son of Man to make man Son of God To cure their/Wounds he Life's Elixir bled And dyed a Death to raise them from the Dead. Dazzled/With Hope We cannot see the Cheat of aiming Impatience to be Great When Wild/Ambition in the heart We find Farewel Content and Quiet of the mind For Glitring/Clouds we leave the solid Shore And Wonted Happiness returns no more'. The central section contains a peacock perched on a flowering bough with a flower basket either side.
