object type: Linen sampler embroidered with polychrome silks (mainly blue and red) in pattern darning and running stitch.  One edge has a selvedge the others are either damaged or incomplete.  The sampler is mounted on a linen backing.  There is a great variety of patterns present on this sampler including a repertoire of 'X' and 'S' interlacing patterns, geometrical motifs and bands as 'spot motifs'.
