The front depicts Saint Andrew and Saint Thomas; the back Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Margaret all placed beneath foliated canopies. Between the sets of figures sits a coat of arms supported by a strap held in the teeth of a grotesque head. The sleeves depict saint Dorothy on the left and the virgin and Child on the right with a mermaid on either side. The figures are placed between columns without canopies. The backgrounds are of gold thread laid in various diaper patterns with edgings of raised gold. title: dalmatic NOTES ----- type: history note value: One set of these vestments is said to have been given by the Emperor Charles V to the cathedral of Burgos. The other Dalmatic was given to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York by Sir Charles and Lady Walston, the cope to the V&A, and they retained the chasuble.
