Silvered skeleton chapter ring with the minutes numbered individually. Day of month shown through square opening just below XII. No dial for seconds. Faceted blued steel hands of the third type of Lee's classification. Signed at the base of the dial: Joseph Knibb Londini Fecit. Movement: Month duration movement with three five-wheel trains for going, quarter striking on one bell, and hour striking. Front plate divided into three sections for ease of assembly. Pendulum adjustment with butterfly nut above suspension cock and octagonal nut below bob for coarse regulation. Separate cock for pallet arbor. The movement was not provided with maintaining power. The hour count wheel stepped on by a gathering pallet. Back plate stamped bottom centre '670'. Case: Oak carcase veneered with walnut with shaped panels to the door and plinth, formed with walnut crossbanding outlined with box or holly stringing. The rising hood has been cut for a door and later restored to its original form. Plain columns with gilt-brass Doric capitals and bases. Sound frets in front and sides of frieze, and in side windows, cut as flower scrolls from thick walnut veneer, all backed with old green silk. Block mounted on underside of top apparently to support a low dome or caddy. Original iron hinges to trunk door.
