Rectangular. The Virgin, with the nude Child on her knee supported by her left hand, is seated on the right, her head turned in profile to the left. Her right hand points to the bowl of water on the floor in front of her. Beside the bowl kneels a woman holding the naked child of the robber in her left arm over the bowl and dipping her right hand into the water; she gazes at the Virgin's face. Behind this group in low relief is the kitchen fire and chimney, with the platters on an adjoining shelf and a pot hangs over the fire. To the left of the kneeling woman is the bearded St Joseph, leaning on his staff, turning his head over his shoulder to talk to the robber, who stands pointing to his breast with his left hand (his right arm is lost). A sword hangs by his side, a dog is curled up asleep at his feet; a tree closes the composition on his right.no. 24referenceexhibition-1675adlib-exhibition-167510c2903c-a764-3da2-b2d5-7d3ba2352474Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes from the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridgereferenceexhibition-1887adlib-exhibition-1887ad7b6b61-9df3-34cb-9675-b711ea766ba9Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes from the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge (2005)M.14-19331accession numberM.14-193313890priref13890urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/13890https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/13890referenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumGiven by Alfred A. de Passreferenceagent-153140adlib-agent-153140f5bf2584-5b68-39cb-ae7a-96c84bb52a36de Pass, Alfred A.193319331933givenAccessioned between 5th and 19th June 193316001600CE1600circa1600170011700CE17001700sculptorreferenceagent-43500adlib-agent-435006418b67a-8c4a-3ebb-a9e3-2334f1d88ff0Fanelli, FrancescoAnglo-Italian, many casting faults.Previously attributed to Vincezo Danti (1530-1576) and to Ferdinando Tacca (1619-1686).
