DESCRIPTIVE DATA

object type: Silver-gilt; the shallow hemispherical bowl sits in a box with six vertical sides divided by rows of cast crockets; five of the sides have applied silver engraved and enamel plaques of saints; the sixth side has a clasp.  The six sided stem has a large central lobed knop, which is set with lozenge shaped silver engraved and enamelled plaques.  The low trumpet-shaped foot has a shaped circular spreading base with rim of twelve alternating semicircular and pointed lobes.  It is engraved with six panels of alternating scrollwork and leaves on a matted ground, and is set with three applied silver plaques engraved and enamelled with two saints and a bishop.  The cover is a six-sided cone surrounded by borders of cast crockets.  Each side is set with a silver engraved and enamelled plaque representing Christ, a bishop or four saints.  The finial is formed as a model of St. George slaying the dragon standing above an openwork ring of cast Gothic arches.
