The original wooden hilt is long and thin, with a round section at the completely covered by an iron ferrule with three moulded iron reinforcing bands, groups of double incised lines and a crenelated rear edge. The remainder of the hilt is faceted, and cut away at the underside leaving the pommel section proud to form a grip, and inlaid with a copper alloy (brass) sun at either side of the pommel title: sword NOTES ----- type: history note value: Probably from the Tanjore armoury, broken up in 1860 (see documentation Elgood 2004).
