IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 158370 accession number: O.60-1879 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Tuesday 25 February 2020 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Forward angled, double edged steel blade of almost flat section, with a low medial ridge running almost full length, with a raise triangular section bordered by single incised lines at the forte. The original wooden hilt is long, of round section at the blade where it has copper alloy (brass) furniture, comprising a ferrule with extensions cut in fleurons above and below the hilt, three moulded reinforcing bands and two domed star washers from an original eight, all the iron rivets surviving. The remainder of the hilt is faceted, and cut away at the underside leaving the pommel section proud to form a grip. At either side of the pommel is a circular recess for an inlaid sun, and there is a bent nail through the hole in the centre. The brass is corroding a vivid green.
