At the forte the blade widens into pierced and cusped wings with incised geometrical ornament. The hilt comprises a steel guard and knucklebow, and grip and pommel of wood. The guard is a narrow oval, with a finial at the top and scalloped edges, a curved knucklebow ending in a stylised dragon-head finial. The grip is bent, and formed of two pieces of pale wood riveted with iron rivets and copper alloy washers to the tang.
