IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 16159 accession number: C.420-1984 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Thursday 11 August 2016 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Jar with loop handles. Stoneware, thrown with applied lugs, and celadon-glazed. This small jar has a wide almost straight mouth, a sloping angled shoulder and gently tapering sides. The footring is low and thin. Four loop handles are attached on the shoulder. Single lines are incised around neck and shoulder. The glaze has a clear pale bluish-green jade colour with a subtle gloss. A prominent crackle runs around the foot and below the shoulder is a rough patch where the vessel touched the enclosing saggar while it was in the kiln. The footring is completely glazed and the base shows two quartzite spur-marks only, because the jar fell to one side and leaned against the saggar. title: jar NOTES ----- type: history note value: unknown before donor LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Applied Arts collection: Gompertz Collection creditline: Gompertz Gift STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/16159 CATEGORIES ------ category: stoneware category: celadon DATING ------ creation date: 1100 - 1150 creation date earliest: 1100 creation date latest: 1150 culture: 12th Century culture: Koryo Dynasty CREATORS -------- maker: Unknown EXHIBITIONS HISTORY ------------------- title: Korean and Chinese Ceramics from the 10th to the 14th Century CITATIONS -------- The Kingfisher Celadon of Koryo Sekai Toji Zenshu Hsu Ching's Visit to Korea in 1123 Korean Celadon and Other Wares of the Koryo Period Korean and Chinese Ceramics from the 10th to the 14th Century Masterpieces of Korean Art Korean Art from the Gompertz and Other Collections in the Fitzwilliam Museum, A Complete Catalogue ---
