The black lacquer is inlaid in mother of pearl. On top is a scene showing a pair of birds perched on the branches of an old prunus tree, surrounded by stems of bamboo, with the sun, moon and clouds above. The top is surrounded by a toothed border, which is repeated on the sides above a peony scroll.
