object type: Mother-of-pearl and gilt metal, probably silver; the shallow oval mother-of-pearl bowl is pinned at the back to a gilt plate engraved with strapwork and scrolls.  The narrow cylindrical stem is chased with a pattern of zigzags.  It terminates in an openwork finial of scrolls surmounted by an oval ring.
