object type: Shell and silver; the bowl and handle are carved from a cowrie shell (Cypraea tigris) the bowl from the curved back, the handle from the columella.  Pinned to the front and back of the bowl is an engraved acanthus leaf-shaped mount .  This is attached to a broad silver ferrule which is embossed with a border of beads, rosettes and fleurs de lis.  The ferrule is glued to the handle.
