The shallow fig-shaped bowl is carved from walrus ivory, using its distinctive grain pattern to maximum effect, and has a short stem. A metal ferrule, engraved with chevrons, joins the stem to the long narrow tapering bone handle, which is made in two adjoining sections: the lower plain, the upper half carved with a raised pattern of lozenges.
