DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: Skirt of a backplate, of detachable form, for cavalry use. Formed of four upward-overlapping lames that widen to its lower end. The first lame has an inward-angled upper edge. The left end of the upper edge is pierced with a keyhole-slot, now broken away through its centre and repaired with a riveted internal patch. The right end of the upper edge is pierced with a rectangular slot, broken out to an irregular form, to the inside of which is riveted a swivel-hook. The keyhole-slot and rectangular slot served, respectively, to engage a mushroom-shaped stud and a pierced rectangular stud riveted at either end of the flange of its backplate. The lames are connected to one another by modern round-headed sliding-rivets with square internal washers at their outer ends, and by a modern internal leather at its centre. The fourth lame is decorated at its centre and to either side with groups of three rivets arranged in triangular formation. The lower edge of the fourth lame has a plain inward turn bordered by a pair of incised lines. Pairs of incised lines also border the upper edge of all four lames. The upper edges of the second to fourth lames rise to low, rounded cusps at their centres. Part of the composite three-quarter armour HEN.M.19A-G-1933.
