IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 18076 accession number: HEN.M.21C-1933 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Friday 8 January 2016 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: 'Almain' collar, for light field use. Formed of a collar of a single plate front and rear, and a pair of integral spaudlers each of five lames. The front and rear plates of the collar are each flanged upwards at the neck-opening, where they have plain inward turns. The lower edge of the rear plate is slightly convex. The lower edge of the medially-ridged front plate descends to a fairly acute point at its centre, and a low cusp at each side. The front and rear plates are connected to one another by a round-headed rivet at the left side, and fastened by a mushroom-shaped stud and keyhole-slot at the right side. Attached within each side of the collar by three modern internal leathers, is a spaudler formed of five downward-overlapping lames of which the second is shaped to the point of the shoulder, and the fifth has a plain inward turn at its sloping lower edge. The lames are connected to one another by modern round-headed rivets with square internal washers at their rear ends, and by modern internal leathers at their front ends. The leathers are a continuation of the front two that connect each spaudler to the collar. Riveted at the front and rear ends, respectively, of the fifth lame of each spaudler is a single-ended, tongued iron buckle and the remains of a leather strap that would have fastened around the inside of the arm. Part of the incomplete half-armour HEN.M.21A-C-1933. title: collar NOTES ----- type: history note value: Mr James Stewart Henderson of 'Abbotsford', Downs Road, St Helen's Park, Hastings, Sussex.
