object type: Thrown greyish-buff stoneware, with applied pulled handle, coated inside and outside with grey-green, streaky ash-glaze with brown flecks which stops about 1 cm above the bottom. The unglazed base has five paler 'patch marks'. The lower part of the jug is roughly barrel-shaped. Above the lower end of the handle the sides slope gently inwards towards the top where there is a projecting ridge below the rim, and a small lip.  A projecting ring encircles the body above the junction of the lower end of the handle with the body, and there are three indented horizontal rings on the neck. The back of the handle has vertical grooves on either side of the centre.
