IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 197982 accession number: CM.382-2013 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Friday 11 April 2014 updated: Thursday 13 August 2020 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Profound Decisions LARP, token for the game Maelstrom. The Ducatto LARP tokens were originally commissioned from a Chinese manufacturing company in late 2002 or early 2003 by Matthew Pennington, founder of Profound Decisions, to be used as one of four fictional currencies in the 2003-start game Maelstrom. Maelstrom was the first commercial LARP game to be produced by Profound Decisions company ("PD"). http://www.profounddecisions.co.uk/home?1 At the time production of the four currencies represented a large financial investment in the new game and was used as a symbol of a commitment to higher physrepping standards by the organisers, as most other LARP systems at the time used plastic or paper currency which does not look as authentic. In 2012 the Maelstrom campaign ended and the metal coins from the Ducatto currency were gifted to Cambridge University Treasure Trap LARP society (one of several societies selected for such a gift in recognition of the large number of players they had sent to the PD game). CUTT used the coins to replace the home-made paper physreps for the fictional schilling currency of their own LARP game, Treasure Trap. (This remains the current situation). The local Durham, Oxford and York LARP societies got the other currencies. Notably, Durham University Treasure Trap got the Maelstrom Mark currency which included shilling coins to physrep their pre-existing shilling currency - CUTT derived directly from DUTT with the first meeting in Jan 2003 and had imported the name of their currency along with other system and setting details. title: 16 silver ducatto LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Coins and Medals STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/197982 CATEGORIES ------ category: token DATING ------ creation date: 2002 - 2003 creation date earliest: 2002 creation date latest: 2003 CREATORS -------- maker: Profound Decisions maker: China IMAGES surrogate: large format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/large_cm_382_2013_281_29.jpg height: 1007 pixels width: 1024 pixels surrogate: mid format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/mid_cm_382_2013_281_29.jpg height: 492 pixels width: 500 pixels surrogate: original format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/cm_382_2013_281_29.jpg height: 2716 pixels width: 2761 pixels surrogate: preview format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/preview_cm_382_2013_281_29.jpg height: 246 pixels width: 250 pixels surrogate: large format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/large_cm_382_2013_282_29.jpg height: 1001 pixels width: 1024 pixels surrogate: mid format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/mid_cm_382_2013_282_29.jpg height: 489 pixels width: 500 pixels surrogate: original format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/cm_382_2013_282_29.jpg height: 2708 pixels width: 2771 pixels surrogate: preview format: jpeg location: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/imagestore/cm/cm48/preview_cm_382_2013_282_29.jpg height: 244 pixels width: 250 pixels
