object type: Dark cream earthenware, press-moulded with integral reliefs on the rim, and decorated with manganese -brown, green and yellow oxide colours under lead-glaze. The circular plate has a raised wavy edge, a slightly concave rim, sloping sides and a flat centre. The latter is mottled overall with grey and has a central splodge of green and yellow. The rim has a repeating border of four pairs of serrated leaves over basket work alternating with four butterflies or moths flanked by floral sprays. The moths and pairs of leaves are painted in green and yellow which has run down into the well. The whole of the reverse is dabbed or sponged with manganese-brown which is denser in the middle and has run outwards towards the rim.
