object type: A hand-coloured woodcut on thin, white laid paper with an embossed border. A comic Valentine subject featuring a young woman sitting on a park bench, ostensibly reading a book, but looking intently at something or someone outside the picture plane to the left. Her cheeks are coloured pink. Her ankles and frilly petticoats are visible above her crossed ankles. Behind her, two top-hatted men can ben seen spying at her from behind a tree. A printed verse below reads: "You ogling minx so proud and pert / Cans't tell the fate of every flirt / It is to be cast off and blighted / To die an old Maid scorned & slighted". Back paper missing.
