Inside the embossed border is a hand-coloured lithographed border of geometric design with acanthus scrolls decorated with peacocks, putti, butterflies and a pair of flaming hearts at upper centre. A hand-coloured lithographed scene at the centre features a top-hatted gentleman receiving a letter from a winged Cupid, who is accompanied by the associated emblems of doves and cloud. A church can be seen in the distance. A printed verse below: "Oh yes my heart is thine my love / I may not say thee nay / A hand-written inscription in graphite at upper left: "1842 / 8/6" [8 shillings and sixpence]. Watermark: JOYNSON / 1842. The inside pages are blank. There is a partial maker's stamp at lower right on the recto, but it is indecipherable. A printed auction catalogue clipping is affixed to the album leaf: "Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park, N.4. / 788 Lace Border Variety - A 4to example with blank fly-leaf, bearing watermark dated 1842. ...". This group of valentines appears to have been bought in 1924 from the bookseller, R.S. Frampton who was based at "Walton House", 37 Fonthill Road, Finsbury Park, London, N4.
