A layer of lace-paper with gilded detail is mounted on top with paper springs and a central panel of embossed paper with scalloped edges mounted with paper springs over the lace-paper layer. At the centre of the upper panel is a chromolithograph of pale pink cyclamen flowers and leaves against a gold background and a medallion inset featuring a couple wearing 18th-century costume and wigs, the gentleman covering the lady's eyes as he waves a letter in the air. A verse inset as a parchment at centre right: "I KNOW YOUR NAME-do you know mine? / Guess me who sends this Valentine. / A BIRD made the rhyme, / The tints from a flower, / On green leaves its time / Was beat by a shower ...". MARCUS WARD & CO. printed at lower left. ENT. STA. HALL printed at lower right. The interior is blank. Watermarks on both sides of the interior are visible: MARCUS WARD & CO / Royal [...] [...]. The chromolithograph was designed by Kate Greenaway for Marcus Ward & Co. The Library of Birmingham has a large collection of Kate Greenaway cards, including this cyclamen design, which is dated circa 1877. The Cyclamen design was from the Floral Oval Vignette series designed by Greenaway. Other flowers featured in the series were honeysuckle (circa 1873) and mayflower (circa 1873).
