object type: White lace-paper decorated with chromolithographic cut-outs of flowers on embossed paper and cut-paper leaves. An albumen print of a couple enacting a comic scene in an interior is visible through the lace-paper window. The print is framed with gilded lace-paper and affixed to the backing sheet. A hand-written inscription on a paper 'book' affixed at lower centre: "Now's the / time / for a / pair of / Gloves". DOBBS KIDD & CO. embossed at lower centre. On the verso: "? KATE TERRY". Watermark: J WHAT[MAN] / 186[?]. This card was included in the exhibition of valentine cards, _For ever thine: the nineteenth century valentine_, held in the Charrington Print Room at the Fitzwilliam Museum in 1995, no. 68.
