The single piece of card has a gilt embossed border with scalloped edges and lithographed lilac ground with scroll design. An older male figure holds a flower bouquet, a potted plant and a framed picture, all with flaps which open to reveal a flaming heart pierced with an arrow, a cupid with a bow and an image of a couple embracing. The figure lifts up to reveal a chromolithographed motto: "Forget me not". A duplicate, P.14412-R-80, is largely adhered to the card support. P.14412-R-81 is another duplicate. From a series and one of eight examples of playing-card style comic valentines employing imported chromolithgraphed figure scraps with opening flaps that are mounted onto the same album leaf. A handwritten inscription in graphite on the album leaf: "Original price 4d each". The hand has been identified as that of Glaisher's friend, the local Antiquarian, Catherine Parsons, who assembled and arranged Glaisher's valentine albums in 1924. See letters from J.W.L. Glaisher to Miss Catherine Parsons in the Fitzwilliam Museum Archive. A graphite inscription visible on the verso of P.14412-R-84, prior to re-affixing: "[?6] 1/-". 1 /- denotes 1 shilling, which was equivalent to 12 pennies. title: Valentine card LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Paintings, Drawings and Prints creditline: Bequeathed by Dr J.
