Embossed roses within the lace-paper are hand coloured. Two cut-paper and hand-coloured yellow birds are affixed at centre left and right. The bird on the left carries a paper scroll in its beak which is printed with a verse: 'Look in the mirror / love, thine image see / Then chide me not / for constancy / to thee'. The bird on the right carries a gold wedding ring in its beak (a small ring of gilt paper). The interior is blank. The valentine is mounted onto a larger sheet of white wove paper, which has the remains of sealing wax? along upper and lower edges.
