A startled crow flies away in the right foreground and two frightened farmworkers recognise Death and flee at centre right. Four shorter verses by Reinick are set out below the image. The third verse describes how the cock's feather in the hat worn by Death 'glows in the sun, red as blood' ['Glüht in der Sonne roth wie Blut'].
