IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 225476 accession number: P.14866-R DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Wednesday 5 September 2018 updated: Monday 7 January 2019 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Etching and drypoint on paper. Three-quarter-length portrait of a middle-aged man, in profile facing right, natural hair curled into the nape of his neck. He wears a coat, holds a tri-cornered hat under his right arm and two large keys [to King's College Chapel] in his left hand. Etched onto the plate at lower left: 'T.O. f 1769'. Inscription in pen and ink below the print on the board onto which it is laid down: 'HENRY MALDEN, CLERK OF KING'S COLLEGE.'. Another inscription in graphite below: 'frontispiece to "An account of King's College Chapel". 1769'. The reference to Malden's publication, _An Account of King's College-Chapel in Cambridge (Embellished with a Plate of the Chapel: and a print of the Author executed by a Gentleman of the University) ..._, Fletcher and Hodson, Cambridge 1769, is erroneous, however, as a different version of this portrait, etched onto a different plate and without the hatched background, was published as the frontispiece.
