DESCRIPTIVE DATA
----------------
object type: Scene from Act II of _Les Troyens à Carthage_ (first performed in 1863), the second part of Hector Berlioz's grand opera in five acts, _Les Troyens_ ['The Trojans'] (1856-8). See Notes.
Six female figures wearing classical drapery are dancing in a grove of trees beside a round temple. The central figure is illuminated and holds some drapery above her head. Another figure facing left brandishes a thyrsus. A sixth figure watches the rest of the group seated on the ground at the far right. Hédiard, who identifies the subject as from 'acte II' of '_Les Troyens_' describes the location of the scene as the Gardens of Didon [Dido] at twilight after the storm ('Les Jardins de Didon; ... Crépuscule après l'orage').
