The gold ground is richly decorated in gold, silver and black in takamakie (high-relief sprinkled design), hiramakie (low-relief sprinkled design) with details in todidashi (sprinkled designs revealed by polishing), nashiji (shimmering spangles) and aogai (inlaid mother of pearl) intricately applied. The tray has red lacquer details. The cover is decorated with pavilions amidst pine trees and the sides depict a mountainous landscape, streams, waterfalls and trees. The tray is decorated with two bridges (one in red and one in gold) over a river amidst a rocky landscape and trees with mountains and a pine forest beyond.
