object type: After the painting by Sir Thomas Lawrence (1803-15; exh. R.A. 1815, no. 28; Art Institute of Chicago, 1922.4461; see also exh. cat. Thomas Lawrence: Regency Power & Brilliance (NPG, 2010), cat. 35, p. 212, reproduced in colour). Isabella Ann Hutchinson (?1771-1829) married timber merchant and Danish consul in London, Jens Wolff, of Sherwood Lodge, Battersea in 1792. Three-quarter length, seated at a table in an interior (probably Sherwood Lodge) and viewed in profile to the left, her right hand holding her turbaned head and her elbow resting on an open illustrated book supported by a cushion and rolled oriental carpet. She wears a pale satin gown with a rose pinned at her waist, a brocade shawl around her left shoulder and at her left side. A curtained screen behind, richly decorated archway beyond and a lit hanging lamp at upper left.
