object type: After the portrait by Scottish portraitist, Catherine Read (1723-1778). Half length in an oval frame. The sitter faces left (complementing the companion portrait of her older sister, Maria, who faces right, see P.15001-R) and looks out at the spectator. She wears a frilled lace Dormeuse or French Night cap tied at the chin with a large bow and a lace fichu at the neck beneath a dark bedgown or mantle.
