object type: Box, lacquer.  Rectangular box with a seated lid (A).  The lid and sides are decorated in a dull gold and silver-grey ground in takamakie (high-relief sprinkled design)
and hiramakie (low-relief sprinkled design) with a bird perched on a japonica branch; the flowers and fruit are in red lacquer with gold details.  There are six paw prints under the tree; the black ground of the paw prints is highlighted with grey and gold nashiji (shimmering spangles ).  The interior is in dense nashiji, with a clump of iris and bamboo in the bottom left corner of the lid.  The black base is decorated with coarse nashiji.
