object type: Piece of lead, c. 28 mm in diameter, stamped with impressions from dies for an Edward III (1327-77) halfgroat, York royal mint, Pre-Treaty series E (1353-55), 5.00 g.  The Fitzwilliam Museum has a silver impression from these dies, originally from the collection of William Boyne (1814-93). Both of these impressions may have been made in the 1840s, when the dies used at the York mint in 1353-55 were discovered in a chest in the Pyx Chapel at Westminster Abbey.
