The work was greatly admired, and was reproduced in bronze, terracotta and plaster. Houdon's full-size marble version, commissioned in 1778, was exhibited at the Salon in 1781, and in 1782 installed in the Theâtre Française (now théâtre de l'Odéon). It is now in the foyer of the Comedie Française. A small terracotta in the Musée Lambinet, Versailles is inscribed, 'f.p. Houdon an 1778', and has been considered to be the model for the bronze (as has this example). There are several other examples in plaster and terracotta which bear the red wax seal of Houdon's studio. For an extensive list of the large and small-size versions of this work, see Documentation, Scherf, 2006.referenceterm-106779adlib-term-106779f0706fcd-d94c-3987-bcb5-f7f794332b6a18th Century, Latereferenceterm-14265adlib-term-14265b9f6d73e-26ce-3588-a519-976c2cc93f7fLouis XVIreferenceterm-129470adlib-term-1294708353db27-fba9-33c1-94a1-f268fd2a2d21literalFranceFrancecountryParisHeightcm33.5referencemedia-206013adlib-media-206013e6fa971f-2c57-3fe4-a30b-ff8b2f20a89ejpegaa/aa37/M_124_1961_200707_adn21_dc2.jpg1heightpixels1024widthpixels68316162832376581imagejpegaa/aa37/mid_M_124_1961_200707_adn21_dc2.jpg1heightpixels750widthpixels50016162832376581imagejpegaa/aa37/M_124_1961_200707_adn21_dc2.jpg1heightpixels1024widthpixels68316162832376581imagejpegaa/aa37/preview_M_124_1961_200707_adn21_dc2.jpg1heightpixels375widthpixels25016162832376581image0media
