This is a Chinese export watercolour depicting two orange-red lilies and a bunch of rockroses. There are two fully bloomed lilies with six red petals each, and prominent stamens extending from the center. The flowers are shown from different angles, with one facing more toward the viewer and another positioned higher and to the right. The lilies have long, curving leaves radiating from the base. At the lower left corner, there are clusters of white flowers. Each has five white petals, tinged at the edges with pale pink, and a central corona of yellow stamens. The painting demonstrates the fine brushwork characteristic of Chinese export art from the late 18th or early 19th century, combing traditional Chinese flower-and-bird painting style and Western botanical illustration. title: drawing LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Paintings, Drawings and Prints collection: Broughton Collection STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/32389 SUBJECTS ------------------- plant plant TECHNIQUES ---------- watercolour and white on thin paper, tipped in on the cream coloured album sheet watercolour CATEGORIES ------ category: drawing DATING ------ culture: 19th Century CREATORS -------- maker: Canton workshop DIMENSIONS ---------- dimension: Height units: mm value: 300 dimension: Width units: mm value: 378
