IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 57088 accession number: E.GA.2673.1943 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Friday 18 July 2025 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: wood fragment, painted object type: A carved and painted wooden stern of a boat (from a funerary model) painted in red and white on the upper surface and featuring a series of black squares painted on the sides of the vessel and along the central 'rib' also. On either side of the 'rib', a diamond shaped motif is present, but the significance of this is unclear. Green paint has applied to the underside (and flecks of blue paint acquired in modernity can also been seen). The paint has also flaked away in significant portions in various places across both surfaces. The object has suffered a severe break at one end, exposing a shaped dowel hole. On the underside, a prominent 'u-shaped' depression (measuring approximately 3.2cm) is visible, which may have been used to hold an oar, but this remains uncertain. Two holes at the upturned 'stern' are visible, which may have been a modern modification used to mount the boat, but this is not yet clear. title: unknown LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Antiquities STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/57088 CATEGORIES ------ category: model DATING ------ DIMENSIONS ---------- dimension: Height units: cm value: 5.1 dimension: Length units: cm value: 13 dimension: Width units: cm value: 9.3
