IDENTIFIERS ----------- id: 57118 accession number: E.GA.2703.1943 DATE AUDIT ---------- created: Saturday 6 August 2011 updated: Friday 18 July 2025 DESCRIPTIVE DATA ---------------- object type: Bes, with dowels top and bottom object type: Carved seated figure of Bes, with his tongue out and hand on his knees. There are two small indents, situated on either side of his tongue, and there are holes in his ears, perhaps suggesting an original presence of earrings? Two rounded tenon joints can be seen, with one at the top and one at the bottom of the figure. Around these, are dowel holes (three on the top) and two on the bottom (one is filled). It is important to note that there is damage to the right side of the figure and the base, meaning there may have been three dowel holes originally on the base. Other damage is present on the front left side of the headdress, the left hand is absent, and there is significant loss to the right side of the figure, both feet, the nose, and the rear of the figure also. title: furniture element LICENSING --------- text license status: CC0 image license status: CC-BY-NC-SA OWNERSHIP --------- instutition: The Fitzwilliam Museum department: Antiquities STABLE URL ---------- url: https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/57118 CATEGORIES ------ category: furniture DATING ------ culture: Greco-Roman DIMENSIONS ---------- dimension: Height units: cm value: 13.7 dimension: Width units: cm value: 6.4
