A round hole is visible just above the serpent's head. The surface is exposed plain wood, however there is a general coverage of a white material, but this may not be pigment. The rounded tenon on the base, has been wrapped in re-used paper at some stage, and writing on the paper can be read. There is only a small amount of damage, with part of the sun disk (on the right side) missing.
