Shape: lion seated on a rectangular plinth. A handle and spout protrude from the upper back.
Decoration: all decoration is painted in lustre. On the face and neck painted features comprise eyes, nose, whiskers and a beaded collar with connecting harness that is formed into a spout and handle. The legs, shoulders and haunches are outlined with thick lines of lustre, forming panels that contain roughly drawn circles, at times containing cross hatching, on a background of dots and dashes. This design continues on the body where it is joined by two medallions on the back containing birds painted in reserve. The plinth is only partially covered with glaze on which dots or lines and circles of lustre are roughly painted.120referenceexhibition-1419adlib-exhibition-141928b62995-099e-37df-8efa-08e31628b021Islamic Pottery 800-1400 AD37referenceexhibition-1418adlib-exhibition-14181d6cfa88-b35b-3d19-a1c7-50f84ee7a583The Gurgan FindsC.75-20191accession numberC.75-201971039priref71039Old object numberAL.38-1948previous IDAL.12-1983urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/71039https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/71039rectangular white paperexterior baseprinted in black37labelrectangular black paperexterior baseprinted in white37labelreferenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumAccepted by HM Government under the Cultural Gifts Scheme from the Ades Family and allocated to the Fitzwilliam, 2019referenceagent-156403adlib-agent-156403ecd89ec6-4d83-3c89-b0e8-9ff7983cf3b5Ades Family201920192019-07-01allocatedEntry date: 198311701170CE1170circa1170120011200CE1200circa1200potterreferenceagent-149652adlib-agent-1496520d4f90dc-b166-3d4b-b0db-25f4118b6e98Unknownreferenceterm-108874adlib-term-108874bf51aaa4-636f-35d9-a4f2-7ab61b8be3dd12th Century, Latereferenceterm-11099adlib-term-110997f4f7ddd-d5c4-3932-92d4-d715ac249f87literalIranIrancountryprobably KashanKashanreferenceterm-108851adlib-term-10885124e00e11-7f5d-3ad5-acda-1a5b13378105fritwareHeightcm13.8Weightg326Widthcm14.4referenceterm-99236adlib-term-9923616b48604-06d3-3b35-a8c2-cfaccdb997eafigurineobject namereferenceterm-128244adlib-term-12824487e93c4c-bc99-3e1c-9bb3-98d19d3f01f5Islamic potterycategoryreferenceterm-129652adlib-term-12965266ffe9ac-5359-3391-967c-dbaf030f5de5lustre warecategoryacquamanilehistory noteFound at Gurganreferenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam Museumreferencepublication-2311adlib-publication-23111ce1cd2f-fae5-359a-b6d4-79dcf4e85d81Gurgan Faiencesreferencepublication-1711adlib-publication-1711afd7ef96-2264-373e-b866-ff93b5b707f9Islamic Pottery 800-1400 AD.
