The shepherd, stands with his arms folded in front of him, leaning against a tree trunk with a recumbent dog at his feet. A bag containing a bunch of grapes is slung over the tree stump. The shepherd wears a black hat, a chequered puce sleeveless jacket, over a white shirt, and mauve and blue striped breeches, and bare legs and feet. He stands on a moulded base which is partly covered in green with black speckles and has areas of dark brownish-red on the edges. The dog is white with a brown head and long hair on its shoulders, a dark red mouth, a brown tail, and a patch of brown on its right hind leg. It wears a yellow collar.
