DESCRIPTIVE DATA

object type: Buff earthenare, tin-glazed, and painted in blue and manganese-purple. Cylindrical with a slightly recessed base, and a loop handle which is rounded on the outside. On its top there is a bear sitting up and holding a ragged staff. The sides are decorated with a cart containing two casks drawn by two horses in tandem, and standing to the left of it, two carters shaking hands. Both of them hold whips and the one nearest to the leading horse also holds a large tankard.  Above the cart is a scroll inscribed 'G:oh. Pollard' and above the carters, another scroll inscribed 'Here's to you JEMMey'. Between the scrolls is a shield charged with three stags heads erased. The top edge is bordered by a cusped line with small stylized leaves below the cusps, and round the bottom edge there is a scalloped line. Down the back of the handle there is a stylized flower, and paired leaves separated by dots decreasing in size towards the lower terminal.  The bear is blue with touches of manganese on its back and sides.
