object type: Buff earthenware, thrown, tin-glazed bluish-white, and painted mainly in blue with a little red.  Circular with curved sides, standing on a footing. The inside is decorated with a brig flying a red pennant at the main masthead, the red ensign at the stern, and a Union flag at the jackstaff. Below the ship is the inscription, 'Success to the Sally'; a narrow diaper border encircles the top edge. On the outside there is a coast scene with a village on a hill,  a sailing ship on the right, and a tree in the foreground; further round, is a small sailing boat.
