Earthenware, tin-glazed pale blue overall, except for the edge of the foot. Painted in blue, green, yellow, orange, manganese-purple, and brown.
Shape 78 with a ridge running round the top of the foot. Circular with shallow upturned sides, standing on a low foot.
Christ washing the Disciples' Feet. Christ washes St Peter's feet, while the other disciples stand or sit on either side. In the background are a door on the left, a window on the right, and an arched window at centre through which a landscape can be seen. The scene is enclosed by a wide border of coloured grotesques incorporating pairs of winged beasts, pairs of dolphins, anthemions and scrolls, reserved in a dark blue ground. The rim is yellow.
In the middle of the back is a yellow disk, painted in blue with a cross with a small circle in one quarter, surrounded by a narrow dark, and a wide paler, blue circle. A wide yellow band encircles the foot, and radiating from it, there is a row of small pointed petals transversely striped in blue, and a row of larger petals striped in orange. The spaces are striped in orange.no. 183referenceexhibition-1665adlib-exhibition-166563658816-1634-3848-a45b-3eee31f953acCeramic Art of the Italian Renaissanceno cataloguereferenceexhibition-1605adlib-exhibition-160504d3c358-0bef-3d8f-8df5-14f16987ac1bItalian Maiolica in the Fitzwilliam Museum209referenceexhibition-1752adlib-exhibition-1752de969839-ad2e-37a9-969c-f82578eca110Albrecht Dürer and his LegacyC.174-19911accession numberC.174-199172547priref72547urihttps://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/72547https://data.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/id/object/72547referenceagent-149638adlib-agent-1496387376d833-d0a7-3be0-916e-9c892b7a24d8The Fitzwilliam MuseumH.S. The painter did not follow the print slavishly. He filled in the figures at the sides, added a door on the left, and substituted the central window and view for a hanging lamp.referenceterm-106256adlib-term-1062561bd8ad44-09c2-3c55-825a-635e463bb56b16th Century, Early#referenceterm-10618adlib-term-106189ebc0ae1-8cf8-312b-832c-9cf44da02136Renaissancereferenceterm-108597adlib-term-1085973730ea9f-6a64-338b-bdbd-0662bf55b8d2literalItalyItalycountryliteralEmilia-RomagnaEmilia-Romagnaregionattributed to FaenzaFaenzaexcept edge of footreferenceterm-39575adlib-term-39575cdf6707a-1eeb-3622-a26b-6e54f1f8d4abtin-glazereferenceterm-42861adlib-term-428615b368285-f1a8-3dcf-a5b2-637fd3c3956cearthenwareDiametercm23.7Heightcm5.1referencemedia-37776adlib-media-37776d6d6b071-29a3-3f31-a1f4-88e2efacbd9ejpegaa/aa9/C_174_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57017029263061471imagejpegaa/aa9/mid_C_174_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels649widthpixels50017029263061471imagejpegaa/aa9/C_174_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels740widthpixels57017029263061471imagejpegaa/aa9/preview_C_174_1991_281_29.jpg1heightpixels325widthpixels25017029263061471image0media
