object type: Grey stoneware, thrown, witha white applied moulded mask, and handle, coated with iron-brown wash (slip), and salt-glazed. The jug is ovoid with a short narrow neck and small loop handle with a longitudinal depression on the exterior. On the neck is a long-haired and bearded mask of unusual form, with a figure 8 impressed on the shoulder below it. The glaze is heavily mottled, the wash has dribbled around the sides, several areas have fired reddish brown, there are several large and small dents and scars, and on one side, a large heavily encrusted scar with smaller encrustations above it, acquired during firing.
