object type: Buff earthenware, moulded over a hump mould, to produce the outlines of the design in relief, coated inside with cream slip, and slip-trailed in ochre and dark brown slips under yellowish lead-glaze. The reverse is undecorated. The lead-glaze has not entirely covered the left edges of the dish so that the slip and body are visible. The dish is circular with deep curved sides and a pie-crust edge, formed by impressing an oval tool or stick. In the middle, there is a circular frame of alternately ochre and dark brown triangles enclosing a cock strutting to the right. On the sides there is a fleur-de-lis at 3 and 9 o'clock, a tulip at 6 and 12 o'clock and four stylized star-shaped flowers in the spaces between them.
