object type: Grey stoneware, thrown and turned, with applied stamped decoration, painted in cobalt-blue and manganese-purple before salt-glazing. The globular jug has a solid foot, a cylindrical neck with pronounced cordons, and a loop handle with a kick at the lower end, and a hole at the top to take a mount. On the front is an applied oval medallion bearing the arms of Amsterdam supported by rampant lions, with a crown above, and below the lions, the date 1690. On either side, springing from a central point below the medallion, are symmetrical engraved  branching stems, bearing applied formal flowers and buds made with five different moulds or stamps. The flowers are painted in cobalt blue, and the background is manganese-purple. There are two blue horizontal bands round the neck, and one round the foot.
