The bowl stands on a footring and has deep curved sides which expand towards the rim. The exterior is decorated with two rectangular panels separated by areas of blue ground with a reserved pale blue cross-shape with blue spots on the arms, and a half flower at the top and bottom of the vertical arm. The panels each contain two Chinese figures in a landscape in late Ming style. Inside at the bottom there are two concentric circles enclosing the date 1671 with a squiggle above and below.
