The base is open underneath so that the glazed interior of the figure is visible. Bacchus is represented as a man in eighteenth-century costume, seated astride a barrel on a low four-footed stand, and holding in his right hand a cup, and in his left a globular bottle. He wears a cap formed by vine leaves and bunches of grapes, a bright yellow coat with brownish-orange cuffs and button holes, and decoration on the back and fronts of vine leaves and bunches of grapes. He has brownish-orange breeches, white stockings, and dark blue shoes. The sides of the barrel are partly striped in blue, and there is a wide green stripe across the top and the bottom. On the front, above this, is the word 'bachùs' with below it a painted tap and glass.
