The underside of base slightly concave and unglazed. The man is seated on a chest resting on a D-shaped low mound base with a rock at the front on which he rests his right foot. He faces towards the front with his head turned slightly to his right. He holds a brown drinking cup in his right hand and in his left holds a screw of tobacco, and supports a large brown jug on the top of the chest beside him. He wears a dark brown tricorne hat, a greyish-blue neck tie and waistcoat, a yellowish-brown and yellow coat, greyish-blue trousers, and dark brown shoes with greyish-blue buckles. The strap handle is attached to a panel rising from the top of the chest against which the man rests his back.
